HAWKER BEECHCRAFT 4000

HAWKER BEECHCRAFT 4000

  • Passengers 9

The largest aircraft in the Hawker family, the Hawker 4000 boasts one of the largest and most comfortable cabins in its class.

About this aircraft

  • Originally named the Hawker Horizon, the aircraft was certified in 2004. It was quickly renamed the Hawker 4000 in 2005, with the first delivery made in 2008.
  • The Hawker 4000 is typically configured for up to eight or nine passengers, with an extra seat available in the enclosed lavatory if needed.
  • The Hawker 4000 can fly nonstop from New York to London and Paris to Dubai.
  • The baggage hold is accessible in-flight, with space for around 12 suitcases.
  • Production of the Hawker 4000 ended in 2013, with 73 aircraft built in total.

The Hawker 4000 strikes a good balance between cabin size, interior comfort, range and operational costs.

Interior design

The Hawker 4000’s cabin is laid out either in a double-club configuration or with two seats swapped out for a three-seat divan in the rear. A forward cabin galley, two forward closets, and a rear lavatory with a walk-in baggage compartment complete the interior.

Below are two examples of typical configurations found onboard a Hawker 4000:

Interesting facts to learn before you fly

  • The Hawker 4000’s cabin is very spacious compared to other business jets in the super-midsize category.
  • The pressurised baggage compartment is accessible in-flight.
  • At the time of its delivery, the Hawker 4000 was the world's only private business jet constructed using carbon composites. This made it lighter than others in its field, which increased its range and performance.
  • The aircraft can fly at 45,000 feet, which can mean a smoother ride for passengers.
  • The carbon fibre fuselage enables a low cabin pressure altitude of just 6,000 feet at the aircraft’s maximum cruising altitude.
  • Special isolators dampen cabin vibrations, making for a quiet flight.

Technological features

The original Hawker 4000 is powered by two rear-mounted PW308A turbofan engines from Pratt & Whitney Canada, each rated at 28.9kN.

Avionics include Honeywell Primus Epic flight control and flight management systems. The navigation suite consists of a dual VHF omnidirectional radio navigation system, dual distance measuring equipment, dual inertial navigation system, dual global positioning system, an electronic ground proximity warner, a TCAS II terrain collision avoidance system and a Primus 880 colour weather radar. The flight deck is equipped with five 8in x 10in (203mm x 254mm) colour liquid crystal displays and two smaller multi-function displays.

History

The Hawker 4000 (originally called the Hawker Horizon) was unveiled in 2002 at the National Business Aviation Association convention in Florida. It was immediately popular and Hawker Beechcraft received hundreds of orders before deliveries began in 2008.

In May 2013, Hawker Beechcraft decided to sell its private jet division and concentrate on building propeller-driven aircraft.

Manufacturer

British aircraft manufacturer Hawker was co-founded by aviation pioneer Harry Hawker in 1920, later merging with engineering group Armstrong Siddeley to form Hawker Siddeley. The company’s famous Hawker Hurricane fighter plane formed a key part of Britain's front-line defence in the Battle of Britain during the Second World War.

The brand’s 125 series is among the most successful British commercial aircraft ever built. Initially developed by de Havilland as the DH.125 Jet Dragon, it entered production as the Hawker Siddeley HS.125 in 1964 and underwent several more reincarnations over the years; such as the Beechcraft Hawker BH.125 and the BAe 125, when Hawker Siddeley merged with the British Aircraft Corporation to form British Aerospace. Later variants included the Hawker 700 and Hawker 800.

British Aerospace sold its business jets division to Raytheon in 1993, which went on to sell its aircraft manufacturing business to Hawker Beechcraft, a company formed and controlled by GS Capital Partners and Onex Partners of Canada. Hawker Beechcraft went bankrupt in 2012 and relaunched as Beechcraft, now owned by Textron Aviation, which discontinued production of Hawker aircraft but continues to offer parts and engineering for existing planes.

Cost

Depending on numerous factors, the average price for a Hawker 4000 can vary from $3.3 million (USD) to $4.5 million.
