How Much Does a Custom Private Jet Interior Cost?

Private plane charter is synonymous with luxury and high-quality design, both on the outside and the inside of an aircraft. For this reason, you can expect the interiors of any private aircraft sourced by our charter experts to have been designed with only superb comfort and quality materials in mind.

However, many owners of private jets may want their interior to be customized to their unique tastes and preferences. Let’s take a look at how these spaces are designed, who designs them, and how much they cost.

Bespoke private jet interiors

There are designers who specialize in creating custom interiors for private jets that go beyond just the customization available from the manufacturers. From hand-stitched leather seats to carbon fiber finishes, these companies offer bespoke solutions that put your own personal touch on an aircraft’s interior.

The cost of a custom private jet interior

So, how much does a fully bespoke private jet interior cost? For luxury interiors of this caliber, the leather alone can range in price from roughly $150,000 (AED 551,000) to $300,000 (AED 1.1 million) per square meter.

So, if you’re customizing the interior of an Embraer Praetor 600, for example – which has a cabin size of 14.56sqm – the project could cost approximately $4.3 million (AED 15.79 million) before additional costs are factored in. But, as you’ll soon see, the result may be well worth the price.

Foglizzo’s custom interior designs

An example of one of these providers is Foglizzo, one of the most respected designers of luxury private jet interiors in the world. The company specializes in a product that jet setters know intimately: Italian leather. Since Foglizzo first opened its doors in 1921, the company has built a reputation for designing and developing some of the highest-quality custom leathers in the world. Now, Foglizzo is leveraging its expertise to set new standards in the aviation interiors industry. The company is behind some of the most luxurious – and expensive – personalized interiors in all of aviation.

Made with only the finest European hides, the leathers can be used for upholstery, cabin lining, ceiling panels, furniture, headboards, and the interior of the cockpit. Foglizzo’s designs maintain the elegant look and feel of fine leather while meeting all industry performance tests. As such, the leathers are lightweight, flame-resistant, and highly durable through stretching and wear.

If these leathers aren’t quite to your taste, the options are endless. The classic collection offers over 250 colors of high-quality leather, and the modular collection features 150 more in 20 patterns. And if you still can’t find what you’re looking for, Foglizzo’s full custom system offers infinite possibilities.

Winch Design’s “unique individual interior statement”

In 2022, UK-based Winch Design Studio took a Bombardier Global 5000 and transformed its standard interior into a design that was “personal to the client.” Part of the safe and neutral interior was replaced with a large aft feature wall with bright colors that really popped. This was a commissioned artwork that was painted directly onto the bulkhead, giving it more dimension and life than a printed vinyl or similar approach.

The rest of the interior had additional changes, although they didn’t quite go as far as the aft wall. These include custom tufted carpet, embossed stitched leather bulkheads, and re-styled high quality leather seats.

One of the most impressive interiors in the Foglizzo portfolio is a design for the sleek Airbus ACJ319. For this specific project, which was for an undisclosed Asian company, Sylvain Mariat, Head of Creative Design Studio at Airbus Corporate Jets, crafted a sophisticated, modern interpretation of the vintage train car. The aircraft is outfitted with five separate suites that feel like cozy train cabins. The elegant brown and cream color palette is accented with gold details for a retro flare. Behind the vintage exterior lies all the trimmings of a hi-tech cabin: Two separate cocktail bars hide behind mirrors that open with the touch of a button.

This is certainly custom design at its finest and guarantees that you will not only travel in style when taking a private jet charter flight in these and similar aircraft but that your time up in the air will be enhanced with many exceptional features that can add a bit of fun and excitement to the experience. You might even feel the nostalgia of taking a trip on a type of luxury train like the Orient Express, which has been immortalized in literature.

Additional electronic equipment and more unique touches

Beyond the quality upholstery, the design on luxury aircraft now includes a range of electronic equipment, such as WiFi, screens, and other functionality, which can all be incorporated into the overall design for a seamless experience on board.

Examples of high-end technological features that can be included in an upmarket private plane rental include large-screen televisions and other audiovisual equipment. These include built-in cinemas with LED “star-scapes” on the ceiling, as in the “Chinese Dragon” concept by Ameco Beijing. Or, as seen in a concept from Design IQ for Comlux America, you can project any images onto the top part of the aircraft, such as dreamy views of the sky and clouds above you that will give the illusion of traveling “with the top down.”

3D-printing technology also allows for additional custom parts, such as bezels, latches, and trim, making it possible to add even more custom details that really put your own personal touches on an aircraft’s interior.

Refurbishment costs for private jets

Of course, not everyone buys a brand-new private jet with the option to customize the interior on purchase. Many people invest in pre-owned private aircraft and opt to spend money on refurbishing the interior to their taste. This is a much more cost-effective way to get a customized private jet, but how much it will set you back will depend on the size of the jet and the work that needs to be completed or the client wants done.

Here are two examples of the refurbishment costs for an ultra-long-range jet and a heavy jet.

Bombardier 8000 refurbishment costs

For example, owners of ultra-long-range jets like the Bombardier 8000 can expect to pay around $200,000 (AED 734,580) for the re-leathering of seats, $40,000 - $90,000 (AED 146,916 - 330,561) to replace the carpet, and anything from $300,000 (AED 1,101,870) to $500,000 (AED 1,836,450) to redo and refinish the aircraft’s woodwork.

Those who have invested in smaller private jets, such as a Challenger 601, can expect a more affordable refurbishment due to the size of the aircraft. There is very little cabinetry in this aircraft, so woodwork is not included. Re-leathering cabin seats will cost around $31,600 (AED 116,063); replacing the carpet is about $15,600 (AED 57,297), and updating the entertainment system will cost around $8,000 (AED 29,383).
